Martina Penning came to Australia from Germany in 1995 after finishing her studies in figurative classical sculpture, photography, metal casting, wood carving painting and ceramics at the university of Osnabruk.
She now lives with her family in Mossy Point and is part of an artist-run gallery, The ARTery.
Penning’s formal education in classical sculpture and subsequently working in many different mediums has given her a great appreciation for texture, which is undeniably obvious in her narrative approach to her paintings.
During the physical process of painting she trusts her intuition above premeditated thought. Therefore her artworks often reflect aspects of her or other peoples lives.

The ARTery
The ARTery is situated in the heart of Mossy Point, A little coastal village 10 min south of Batemans Bay in NSW.
The gallery is run by five artists and displays contemporary painting, hand-crafted silver jewellery and recycled furniture.
